SBT Breed Council Cause of Death Survey

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier Breed Council of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is conducting an age at, and cause of, death survey on SBT's which have died post-1995 in the British Isles.

The objective is to establish the normal lifespan of the breed, with supportive data, and to see if there are any causes of death with a significantly higher than expected prevalence, especially in dogs dying prematurely. We wish to concentrate on British dogs specifically as overseas dogs may be exposed to infectious agents etc that are not found in Britain but which could, in theory, affect the results.

The secondary question concerns skin lumps, which, hopefully, is self explanatory. This is being included following discussion with an eminent vet who felt he was seeing greater numbers of Staffords and their crosses with such lumps than might be expected. All who have lost a Stafford since 1995 are invited to participate in this study.

All information regarding owners and specific dogs supplied will be strictly confidential. It is requested that contact details are supplied in case it is found necessary to seek further information.

May I thank you in anticipation for your participation and assistance in the breed's interests. Archie Bryden ( Lead Health co-ordinator).
